Taj mahal - Agra


Agra, the former capital of India is located on the banks of river Yamuna, in the northern part of the region, Uttar Pradesh. This is the most populous cities of Uttar Pradesh and specially known for the great memorial Taj Mahal. But Taj Mahal is not the standalone attraction of Agra, there is some other interesting places also where many travelers visits time to time that includes Agra Fort, Fathepur Sikri, Jama Masjid and many more. The city was established by the Mughal emperor Babar in 1526 and get recognition as the capital of Mughal emperors from 1556 to 1658. Agra is not only the famous destination place for tourists but it offers them breathtaking wonderful handcrafted items which are made of pure leather.

Tourist Places/ Sightseeing at Agra

Taj Mahal : The white stoned monument, Taj Mahal, recalls the name of the great Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, who built the memorial in the remembrance of his wife Mumtaz Mahal and it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The monument itself is the symbol of love and is the great tourist attraction place.

Agra Fort : Agra fort is the most significant centre of Mughal Empire. Akbar commissioned the creation of the fort but it was finally completed by his grandson Shah Jahan. Most of the monuments that were built afterward were constructed by Shah Jahan, where marbles were used as the chief construction material.

Sikandra : The Tomb of Emperor is Akbar the Great. Built in Red Sandstone inland with Marble. It is a striking sight.

Fatehpur Sikri : The red stoned fort Fatehpur Shikri was constructed in 1570 which is located at a distance of 37 km from Agra city. In Fatehpur Shikri, many monuments have been constructed and every monument tells the story of ancient emperor. Around the entire city (Fatehpur Shikri), many doors have been constructed through which one can easily get enter inside it.

Air : Well connected to Delhi, Khajuraho, Varanasi by air.
Rail : Many trains runs from Jodhpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Ahmadabad, Varanasi, Amrisar, Jhansi, Gwalior, Patna, Jaipur, Cochin, Madras, Indore, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Vishakhapatnam, Kathgodam to Agra in a daily basis or alternate days.
Road : Idgah bus stand is the main bus stand of Agra, from where one can catch buses for Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura, Fatehpur-Sikri, etc. Buses for Mathura also leave from Agra Fort bus stand.
